OUR STORY

In 1986 we bought our first Labrador.

We are the Piatt’s. Formerly of Demotte, Indiana, formerly of Belton, Missouri, currently residing in Mobridge, South Dakota. In 1986 we bought our first Labrador and promptly fell in love with the breed. In 1994 we purchased our first female black Lab and promptly named her Chase, meaning “hunter”. We lived near Kansas City at the time and during our search process realized just how many “different” types and kinds of Labradors were actually being marketed. We met many breeders from those with “high dollar” dogs to those “backyard” breeders and everything in between.

Like many of you, we were looking for a dual purpose Labrador that would perform well while hunting with my boys and be the perfect family pet. What we found were dogs that were way out of our price range that were exactly what we desired but could not afford. At the other end of the spectrum we found dogs that would perform in one arena or the other but not in both. The “hunting” dogs were so high strung that they were not suitable for living in the home. The “pet” quality dogs appeared to have very little ingrained hunting instincts. It was shortly after our search that we decided that there needed to be quality Labradors at affordable prices that could function as the Labrador was breed to, under any situation or circumstance. We began at that point to make that a priority.

Through the years since we have breed selectively to produce sound, healthy Labradors that function well in the field, both upland and water, and Labradors that make outstanding pets and family companions, at affordable prices. Through word of mouth alone we have had the privilege of seeing our dogs sought after by many and currently have dogs throughout the United Sates doing exactly what the Labrador Retriever has been breed throughout the years to be, the greatest all round, multi-function dog in the world.

In 2003 we accepted a call to minister in a church in rural South Dakota. We left the Northwest corner of Indiana behind, moving to an area that we have referred to as the heaven of hunting. What this has meant for our dogs is that we have been able to hunt them more frequently and have really gotten to see them blossom.

We have been very selective in bringing dogs into our breeding program. Our desire has been to produce a healthy Labrador that looks like a Labrador and functions like a Labrador. We have selected dogs that come from proven hunting stock. By that I mean dogs that hunt well for their owner and others, not those who have proven themselves in a sterile testing event. We have selected dogs that are gentle around children and easily trained and yet have the desire and heart and loyalty that we have all come to love in our labs. Contact us about upcoming litters or see our puppy page.

I could write on for hours as our love for the breed is very deep and strong, but will quit now. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions regarding the breed specifically or questions about the dogs we offer. I would love to communicate with you on any level about labs.
